CHS Shows Out for First 'Celebration of Teaching'

Wednesday morning, the College of Health Sciences hosted a Celebration of Teaching.

It was the first time the College had hosted the event, which was to "appreciate teaching in all forms and to honor all the people who allow that to happen," said Janice Kuperstein, PhD, PT, MSEd, FNAP and the College's Associate Dean for Faculty Advancement & Clinical Engagement.

"I was honored to facilitate this event, which evolved from discussions with Faculty Council," Kuperstein said. "Throughout the past couple of months, individual departments had their own celebrations and this morning was a culminating event for the academic year. Whether teaching in the classroom the lab or the clinic, leading thought-provoking discussions, or engaging in research mentoring that ignites the spark of curiosity, our faculty and staff are the center of our mission. The staff who support the work are not behind the scenes, but actively and integrally engaged."

She also noted how the event highlighted the CHS Learning Community — SoTL, or The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

"It was our privilege," she said. "This community was spearheaded by Janine Schmedding Bartley and Leslie Woltenberg, in close collaboration with CELT, and has just completed their first year." 

From faculty to staff, it truly takes a village to consistently help students. 

"Excellent teaching in the CHS is a team effort!" Kuperstein said.
