Investing in the College of Health Sciences

When you visit a physician’s office, medical laboratory, sporting event, school, hospital or clinic, chances are your life will be impacted by a health sciences professional. Health Sciences, or allied health, professionals come from many diverse disciplines. There are more than 200 allied health care fields, making up nearly 60 percent of the health care workforce. From the laboratory to the therapy room, allied health professionals play an integral role in health care. Giving Opportunities 

College-Wide

The Adapted Toy Lending Library Fund help families afford adaptive toys for children with physical and developmental disabilities. It also gives high schoolers with these disabilities a chance to bond with UK students in teaching programs.

The BioMotion Laboratory Fund will support the development of innovative, effective treatments that improve the quality of life for patients with lower extremity injuries. Funds will be used to conduct research, support research assistantships for graduate students, and supporting dissemination of our work to the public.

The College of Health Sciences Graduate Student Relief Endowed Fund helps provide financial assistance to UK College of Health Sciences graduate and professional students who are facing significant hardship due to unforeseen financial emergencies. Situations include, but are not limited to, accidents, medical or dental emergencies, deaths, safety issues, natural disasters, travel emergencies, need for temporary housing due to unanticipated events.

The Ethan Earlywine Student Emergency Fund was created by Ethan’s family, friends, Georgetown Community Hospital, and the University of Kentucky in order to rememberalways Ethan’s passion for helping others. Funds will be awarded as grants to help undergraduate students alleviate short-term financial needs.

The Grace Jones Memorial Fund was established in memory of Grace Jones, who joined the faculty of the Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky in 1984 and later became a Professor in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 1999 in the renamed Department of Biology. Subsequent to a severe stroke in 2000, she inspired many as she overcame difficult physical challenges, and continued her academic teaching and research in Biology which she so much enjoyed. Gifts to this fund are used to help persons with physical/stroke disability and their families.

The Health Sciences Academic Fund for Excellence supports student education in the College of Health Sciences.

The KARRN Fund was created to accomplish the following priorities related to advocating and empowering communities impacted by disability: support for student-run medical equipment (walkers, wheelchairs, canes, etc.) refurbishing program to aid individuals in underserved rural communities; provide adaptation and development of new assistive technology and durable medical equipment; pioneer testing of new models for distance education and telehealth to improve patient provider communication to overcome the misuse of prescription medications.

Athletic Training and Clinical Nutrition

The Amy M. Waugh Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund provides financial support for students who are on the Pre-Athletic Training pathway within the College of Health Sciences. With your support, you are providing opportunities for students to be impacted by Amy's life for many years to come. This fund is a reflection of Amy's dedication to the lives of others and the way she chose to live her life.

The Ellen Felice Mattacola Scholarship supports one or more undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Athletic Training. The scholarship is named for Ellen Felice Mattacola, a first-generation college graduate from a family of Italian immigrants and a committed life learner.

The Clinical Nutrition Development Alumni Fund provides scholarship assistance to students in the UK College of Health Sciences Clinical Nutrition program and helps to create a strong alumni/student network.

Clinical Leadership and Management

The Clinical Leadership and Management degree lays the groundwork for graduates to pursue careers and advanced education as competent, evidence-informed, effective leaders prepared to engage in interprofessional healthcare management practice. Funds to support the UK Clinical Leadership & Management Program help make student financial assistance possible and provide opportunities for alumni to support current students in their pursuit of a degree.

The Madison Becknell Clinical Leadership and Management Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to two students in the Clinical Leadership and Management program in the UK College of Health Sciences. Each recipient will receive $2500 in scholarship support.

Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Communication Disorders Development Alumni Fund provides scholarship assistance to students in the UK College of Health Sciences Communication Sciences and Disorders program and helps to create a strong alumni/student network.

The Emma Rose Davis Bridges Memorial Scholarship was created in her memory to encourage and support students who, like Emma, have demonstrated a commitment to collaboration and innovation in the field of speech language pathology. This annual scholarship will be awarded to one second-year Communication Sciences and Disorders Master's Degree candidate, who is pursuing Speech Language Pathology as their concentration.

The Clinical Laboratory Sciences Development Alumni Fund provides scholarship assistance to students in the UK College of Health Sciences Medical Laboratory Science program and helps to create a strong alumni/student network.

Physical Therapy

The Dwain Robert Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by Dwain’s family to honor his giving spirit through scholarships to deserving Physical Therapy students. Scholarships awarded from this fund benefit Physical Therapy students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; have overcome adversity while in college; have financial need; and complete an essay.

The McDougall Endowed Scholarship Fund awards scholarships annually to students enrolled in the College's physical therapy program who show professional promise. The scholarship is named for Richard "Mac" V. McDougall who was the founding director of the UK College of Health Sciences Physical Therapy program in the mid 1960s.

The Physical Therapy Program Scholarship Fund supports students pursuing a degree in the Physical Therapy (PT) Program at the UK College of Health Sciences. PT students are educated and trained to be competent physical therapy practitioners who are critical thinkers, educators, and professionals.

The Physical Therapy Study Abroad Fund helps students in the Physical Therapy Program at the UK College of Health Sciences who have financial need. The program offers opportunities in Umbria and Tuscany, Italy; Sydney, Australia; Hong Kong; Ecuador; and other locations.

Physician Assistant Studies

The Physician Assistant Studies Development Alumni Fund provides scholarship assistance to students in the UK College of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Studies program and helps to create a strong alumni/student network.

The Physician Assistant Studies Rural Health Award recognizes students who have demonstrated a commitment to rural health. The faculty of the UK College of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Studies Department annually select a full-time PAS student on the Morehead campus for the award.

The Tiffany Fahringer-Underwood Scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled in the physician assistant studies program in the UK College of Health Sciences with preference given to students who have provided service to others, demonstrate interest in medical mission work in the United States or across the globe, and are in good standing in the program.

The William J. Meadors Physician Assistant Educational Fund provides scholarship assistance to students in the UK CHS Physician Assistant Studies Program.

Sports Medicine Research Institute

The Active Duty Military and Veterans Fund is used to create interdisciplinary collaborations across civilian and military institutions; care for our nation's most valuable asset to national defense; and contribute to the quality of life across during and after service.

The Active Girls Healthy Women Fund is used to support community outreach lectures and efforts, demonstrations by prominent educators, technology and equipment advancements, continuing education, research related expenses, and student-related expenses.
