Appreciation and Best Wishes to Dr. Charlotte Peterson

Date

Faculty and Staff,

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Charlotte Peterson on her upcoming retirement.

Charlotte earned her PhD in Developmental Biology from from The University of Virginia in 1984, but she’s been a Wildcat since 2006, when she became the Joseph Hamburg Endowed professor and Associate Dean for Research. She served as scientific officer for the NIH's “Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium” (MoTrPAC), is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and serves on external advisory committees for academic institutions nationally and internationally.

Charlotte became the director of the Center for Muscle Biology in 2015. Under her leadership, the Center has thrived — even during the challenging pandemic of the past two years.

Currently, there are 25 investigators collaborating with CMB, spanning five different colleges, and the program continues to expand each year.

Dr. Peterson has been continuously funded for her research for over 20 years and currently is PI on grants from:

  • National Institute on Aging (NIA)
  • National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS)
  • National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
  • Department of Defense

Charlotte will be the first to tell you that she is not really leaving. She will be serving in a post-retirement position, doing research and submitting grants and working with her CMB colleagues.

On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of the College of Health Sciences, we extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Charlotte for her years of service and leadership to the College of Health Sciences and the University of Kentucky.

Personally, I always appreciated her tireless work ethic and her enthusiasm for her research. I am confident you all agree!

Best,

Scott
