Celebrating National Girls and Women in Sport Day …

Date

Students, Faculty and Staff,

I always say that I feel there is no better place to work on campus than the College of Health Sciences. One of the reasons I feel this way? Because of the way our faculty, staff and students honor and celebrate important times throughout the year.

We just saw how our Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion educated us on the history of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Next Wednesday, Feb. 1, we will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sport Day, and the Active Women’s Health Initiative — one of four major research initiatives housed within our Sports Medicine Research Institute — has a wonderful event planned that will educate and help the community.

AWHI is bringing movement-based programming to a group of girls at Leestown Middle School between 4:30-6 p.m., Feb. 1. Partnering with a local exercise leader, the organization will bring their Movement Mentors to engage with, and educate, the students.

The Active Women’s Health Initiative is a group of researchers, clinicians and professionals who are working together to improve the health of girls and women through research, outreach and educational efforts. Launched in 2018 within SMRI, the AWHI hopes to empower girls and women to lead healthy lifestyles, while reducing problems that may arise due to injuries.

That is an effort we can all support, and once again, I am so proud of all of you who work in the College of Health Sciences.

Continue to stay safe, and thank you for all that you do.

Dean Lephart
