This is The CHS Way …

Date

Students, Faculty and Staff,

Greetings, all. I hope you are continuing to have a safe and productive year. Because here in the College of Health Sciences, I am proud to say that we are being very productive.

Both in the classroom and out, we are striving to do our best to prepare our students, break new ground in terms of research and care for those across the Commonwealth.

That’s the way we do things in our College. And that’s what I want to talk more about.

Here in CHS, there’s a certain way in which we conduct ourselves.

Professionalism. Dedication. Innovation. Altruism. All are words that describe the demeanor and actions of you — our students, faculty, staff and alumni.

This is something I have been thinking a lot about as of late, because I am so proud of all of the people who represent — and help support — our College. As I have said, I believe this is the best place to work on all of campus. I know we are not perfect, and I know there are things we must still improve on. But we are all striving to achieve our goals.

It is the way we do things here in CHS. It is the way our alumni lead and succeed. Just as our College is the Gateway to the Health Professions, I refer to this spirit as The CHS Way.

This week, we launched a new podcast dedicated to telling some of our best stories, which are also some of the best examples of this great spirit. And for that reason, we’re calling it The Way Podcast. You can find it here: https://www.uky.edu/chs/about/the-way-podcast. Kudos to those who are producing this new manner of storytelling.

Similarly, in a week or so you will be getting the latest issue of our Gateway magazine, where I also address this new initiative. Look for the hashtag #TheCHSWay on future stories and projects as we highlight more of the amazing people who help make up the College of Health Sciences.

Again, thank you for all you do. Here, we continue to relay the great things we are doing, while also realizing there is still much to be done. And through it all, you continue to make a difference. But of course, I shouldn’t be surprised. That is also The CHS Way.

Continue to take care,

Dean Lephart
