Finding that balance

Date

Faculty and Staff,

First, I want to re-emphasize that I hope all of you are healthy and well. As the weather outside grows cooler, I wish you all have the opportunity to get outside and enjoy some of this sunshine before we need to bundle up for winter.

In fact, I think it’s almost a priority — we cannot spend the entirety of our days inside our homes and classrooms and offices. And that extends to taking personal time away when you need it. Burnout is a very real thing, and in the College of Health Sciences, we recognize that you need time for you. It’s about finding balance, correct?

This month is National Work and Family Month, and I want to take this space to again stress the importance of balancing these important matters — our Human Resources department refers to the topic as “Embracing Hope & Excellence in Work and Life.” And to help you do so, they have provided several events and details on their website, on subjects like productivity, nutrition, caregiving and fitness. More information can be found on their website at: www.uky.edu/hr/worklifecalendar.

We must continue to remember to make time for ourselves; our mental health depends on it. So many days are filled as we care for others — our families, our students, our friends and co-workers. I ask you today to make certain that you are doing everything possible to maintain a healthy balance in your life by caring for yourself, too. Carve out some time to tend to your own well-being.

Remember: We want nothing more than for you to be successful. Part of that means that you have a healthy balance while reaching your goals.

And if you need anything at all, please reach out to any of us.

Scott
