Love and respect in February …

Date

Students, Faculty and Staff,

Greetings. I hope you’re all staying well.

I wanted to draw your attention to the fact that we are already turning the calendar into the month of February. Amazing, I know.

Yes, it is the month where we honor Presidentslove and cardiovascular health. But it’s also the month where we honor Black History. In tandem, it is the month where we in the College of Health Sciences will announce the second round of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) Program Grants.

Last year, we were able to help fund three projects that we hope will enhance the sense of belonging among students, staff and faculty members, as well as encourage more underrepresented high schoolers to apply.

I am honored to say that this month we will again advertise a call for proposals for these special awards. Have an idea? I encourage you to seek out this opportunity.

During this next month we will also be running some stories on our website to celebrate our talented African-American alumni, and how they are changing the world for the better. While it is our opinion that we celebrate the success and diversity of our alumni during every month of the year, we recognize this also gives us an opportunity to focus on some truly great stories.

Lastly, I want to encourage you all to please continue to look out for one another; and by that I mean continue to wear your masks and think of one another’s health. As we noted, February is the month known for honoring love and respect.

I can’t think of a better time to put those qualities into practice.

Continue to take care,

Scott
