We Must Not Forget India ...

Date

Faculty, Staff and Students,

I feel it important that even though we are celebrating a time of great accomplishment here in our college and University, we must also take a moment to remember some of our extended family around the world.

Right now, in India, COVID-19 infection and fatality rates are soaring. Here in our college, we have a number of faculty, staff and students who have friends and family members there. Simply, they are our family and friends, too. And while we are celebrating the end of an academic year, some are worried about their loved ones.

We want to be there for you.

Over the past year, our colleagues throughout the campus have come together virtually through Moments of Reflection to discuss racial injustices and the numerous impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. At noon, on Tuesday, May 18, the College of Medicine is planning such an event and has invited us to join them.

After all, no one should have to go through this alone. We are truly a global family. And we must do all we can to help those affected manage an increasingly difficult time. I can think of no better way than to come together, in solidarity, to provide guidance and a safe haven.

If you need other support, faculty and staff may reach out through the UK HR Work-Life Office and students may reach out through the UK Counseling Center.

Best,

Scott Lephart, PhD, and
