Dr. Janine L. Schmedding-Bartley, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at UK. She is originally from southeastern Michigan and earned her bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology with an emphasis on school-based practice from Eastern Michigan University. She earned her master's degree in communication sciences and disorders from Florida State University. She also earned her Ph.D. from Florida State University and focused her doctoral work on early identification and early parent-implemented interventions for very young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Schmedding-Bartley has a passion for working with individuals with ASD and particularly children under the age of 5, who display red-flags for ASD or have been diagnosed with ASD. Additionally, she is interested in studying how best to prepare speech-language pathology students and other medical and educational students to support individuals with ASD and help them realize their potential in society.

Prior to coming to UK she was an assistant professor at Grand Valley State University where she taught a variety of courses in communication sciences and disorders for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as held the position of undergraduate program director. She has also worked clinically in early intervention, preschool, and elementary school settings with children who presented with a variety of communication disorders.
