Dr. Winters joined the University of Kentucky in August 2015 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Athletic Training and Clinical Nutrition and is the Laboratory Manager of the Sports Medicine Research Institute at Camp Lejeune.  He completed his PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware and his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.  Prior to starting his PhD he was the Exercise Physiologist/Gait Lab Technician for the National Institute on Aging's (NIA) Clinical Research Branch in Baltimore, MD. His current research investigates physiological and biomechanical factors associated with performance enhancement and injury prevention in Special Operations Forces. Dr. Winters’s previous work has primarily focused on understanding how muscle function influences, movement strategies, lower extremity joint loading, and overall physical performance in a variety of clinical populations. His other research interests include examining neuromuscular function, 3- dimensional motion analysis of dynamic movement patterns, and factors associated with rapid force generation.
