Dr. Kimberly I. Tumlin’s scientific impact focuses on asset-based resilience in populations with trauma histories. At the Center for Innovation in Population Health (https://iph.uky.edu/) her research builds on the growing evidence that systems of care impact both individual and community health outcomes, especially in how development of strengths outcomes are associated with transformative healing. In July 2023, Dr. Tumlin established the Equine-Assisted Collaborative for Health (https://iph.uky.edu/equine-assisted-collaborative-health-each) to create a collaborative space joining people and data together for translating research in equine-assisted care to practice. As the Team Lead for the Transdisciplinary Equine Assisted Collaborative housed in the College of Nursing, and funded by the Martin-Gatton Foundation, Dr. Tumlin collaboratively builds systems to integrate healthcare and equine-assisted care for better wellness in healthcare staff and promotion of high-value, broadly accessible person-centered clinical care. In addition, as the Director for Research for the Equestrian Athlete Initiative (https://chs.uky.edu/smri/eqa) in the UK Sports Medicine Research Institute she combines her lifelong equestrianism to innovate quality of life for training and rehabilitation in equestrian sport.
