On Friday, May 8, more than 200 students from the College of Health Sciences walked across the stage at Rupp Arena and became college graduates.
It was a time of joy, pride and — for some — relief.
“Walking across the stage this Friday feels like the culmination of four years of hard work, but honestly, it’s a moment that I have been building toward for a long time,” said Jasmine Ngo, a 21-year-old Lexington native who graduated with a degree in Human Health Sciences (from the pre-optometry track). “I worked for years to get here, and this feels like proof that continuing to push myself was worth it. I’m incredibly grateful to my family and friends, because I truly could not have made it without them.”
For Gracee Spears, the path to a future in healthcare became clear through exploration, involvement and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone.
Now, the 22-year-old from Franklin, Ky., has graduated from the Communication Sciences and Disorders program in the College of Health Sciences, and she is already looking ahead. She will stay at the University of Kentucky to pursue her master’s degree and become a speech-language pathologist.
“Take absolutely every opportunity to get involved and stay open to growth,” she said. “Stepping into experiences and leadership roles that may push you outside of your comfort zone can end up being some of the most rewarding. Surrounding yourself with people who are passionate and driven will help you grow and prepare you for your future career.”
