The epitome of the best in her work from AT to Administrator, Amy Waugh was loyal, loving, and kind, yet tough and productive. Christmas was her favorite time with her family shopping on Black Friday, making cookies, and being together. Let’s donate now to celebrate her memory by giving NOW.
The Amy M. Waugh Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Amy Waugh, who served as the Practice Manager and Athletic Trainer Clinical Coordinator for the UK Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic. She is an alumni of the University of Kentucky where she earned her Bachelors of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Heath Promotion and has a Masters of Science from the University of Florida in Sports Management.
She was an avid sports enthusiast and an athlete competing in many activities throughout her youth. During high school she served as an athletic trainer for the Bourbon County High School Football team and from there a future career path was born. During her time as an undergraduate she was an athletic training student aid working with many sports teams at the University of Kentucky. As a graduate student at the University of Florida she worked with the swim and dive team and then transitioned into full-time employment as an Athletic Trainer and Sports Health Coordinator from 2005-2007. At that time, she returned to the University of Kentucky as an Outreach Athletic Trainer and built solid and enduring relationships with the high school programs she provided services across the state. Athletes, coaches, and parents from across rural Kentucky were impacted by her compassionate care and dedication to her job. Within her experiences she also served as a mentor to many graduate students within the College of Health Sciences pursuing an athletic training degree. She possessed a contagious light, a vibrant independent energy, and was truly an inspiration to everyone she met.
This fund is dedicated to provide financial support for students who are on the Pre-Athletic Training pathway within the College of Health Sciences. With your support, you are providing opportunities for students to be impacted by Amy’s life for many years to come. This fund is a reflection of Amy’s dedication to the lives of others and the way she chose to live her life.
Update
Amy Waugh’s family, friends, colleagues and supporters are a force!
From the onset, the effort to honor Amy with a scholarship at the UK College of Health Sciences has been an incredible reflection of the great love and respect from so many people- from family to friends, from Paris to Florida, and from coworkers to students. Please take a moment to meet these people, to thank them for their generosity, and to encourage others to join us in giving.
Thank you to the physicians and staff at UK Sports Medicine including Dr. Robert Hosey, Dr. Mary Lloyd Ireland, Dr. Darren Johnson, Dr. Kimberly Kaiser, Sheri McNew, Dr. Scott Mair, Dr. Kyle Smoot, and Dr. Austin Stone.
The Sports Medicine physicians led the effort to build the fund so that the scholarship could be endowed. From there, a small group of individuals made pledges necessary for the scholarship to start on the path to endowment. The generosity and leadership of these individuals is building a legacy for Amy and instrumental in creating the first scholarship for students who are on the Pre-Athletic Training pathway within the College of Health Sciences. Many thanks to the individuals who made these pledges.
A very special thank you to the family of Amy Waugh who are the heart of this effort.
