3 CHS Undergraduate Researchers Win Proposal Awards for CCTS Poster Submissions

First Place research Neyati

Congratulations to three outstanding College of Health Sciences undergraduate research students from Dr. Kimberly Tumlin’s lab who won top proposal awards for this year’s CHS Research Day Undergraduate Proposal Competition.

The students presented their work on Tuesday at the Central Bank Center during the college’s research day, which was held in conjunction with the 20th annual Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Spring Conference, entitled “Pioneering Pathways: Innovative Trial and Design in Translational Science.”

The students are:

  • Neyati Patel (Human Health Sciences, pre-Physical Therapy track) — 1st Place for “Hold Your Horses: Evaluating Visuomotor Reaction Times in Combined Drivers.”

  • Mazie Knight – (double major in Animal Sciences and Human Health Sciences Undergraduate Research) — 2nd Place for “Precision Under Pressure: Jockey’s Reaction Accuracy in Competition.”

  • Anna Kidney (Human Health Sciences, pre-Physical Therapy track) — 3rd Place for “The Asymmetry Factor: Can Combined Driving Sport Help Mitigate Age-Related Declines in Strength?”

In July 2023, Dr. Tumlin (research assistant professor, Athletic Training and the Sports Medicine Research Institute) established the Equine-Assisted Collaborative for Health to create a collaborative space joining people and data together for translating research in equine-assisted care to practice.

In addition, as the Director for Research for the Equestrian Athlete Initiative in the UK Sports Medicine Research Institute she combines her lifelong equestrianism to innovate quality of life for training and rehabilitation in equestrian sport.

We’re proud of our CCTS winners and extend our congratulations to all undergraduate students who presented their research this year!
