Laughing at the Ruckus

Some folks around these parts sure have been causing a ruckus.

On Tuesday, College of Health Sciences leadership and Peer Mentors presented a Healthcare Ruckus, where from 4:30-6 p.m. in MDS 529/531, more than 150 students came out to be introduced to healthcare clubs and organizations, leadership organizations, and clinical opportunities.

The groups that attended included: Movement Mentors, Letters of Hope, Healthcare Cats, Kentucky Rural Health Association, Student Nutrition and Health Collective at UK, UK SMRI, Medicats, HOSA, CHS Ambassadors, and CHS Peer Mentors.

"I feel like this event was an amazing opportunity for students," said Adrianna Walker, a senior Human Health Sciences (pre-audiology) major from Nashville. "We hope it helps them become more involved on campus, in spaces that align with their interests in healthcare. I definitely see us doing this event again in the future!"

"The event went wonderful," said Ashley Downing, a senior Human Health Sciences (pre-Physical Therapy) major from Union, Ky. "We had so many students who left the room with a new club/organization to call home, and of course a bag full of goodies from trick-or-treating. Our freshmen CHS majors always ask us mentors what organizations we are involved with on campus and what the importance of joining an organization is.

"I hope that they discovered their own answer to this question at Healthcare Ruckus and found a place that will connect them with their peers and professionals in the healthcare field."
