CLM Wins AUPHA National Award

Sarah Kercsmar and Karen Clancy

The UK College of Health Sciences Clinical Leadership and Management Program was presented with the prestigious Association of University Programs in Health Administration Award for Engagement by a New Program Member at their annual meeting earlier this month in Tampa, Fla.

The Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) is a global network of colleges, universities, faculty, individuals and organizations dedicated to the improvement of health and healthcare delivery through excellence in healthcare management and policy education. Its mission is to foster excellence and drive innovation in health management and policy education, and promote the value of university-based management education for leadership roles in the health sector.

AUPHA's membership includes the premier baccalaureate, master's and doctoral degree programs in health administration education in the United States, Canada and around the world. Its faculty and individual members represent more than 300 colleges and universities.

“It’s a real honor for our program to be recognized on the national and global level,” said Karen Clancy, PhD, MBA, BHS and Program Director for the Clinical Leadership and Management Program. “Thanks to faculty who work hard to lead health administration education. It’s evidence of our continuing commitment to provide a quality education for students.”

The Award for Engagement by a New Program Member is given to only one program each year, recognizing their contributions to global leadership, innovation and excellence in health administration education.

Since becoming a member of AUPHA in 2020, Clinical Leadership and Management faculty have published multiple peer-reviewed articles in the Journal of Health Care Administration Education.

Most recent works include: Gamification of Employability Competencies, Brady, C., Clancy, K. F., (in publication 2024); From the classroom to the workplace: How alumni support and guide undergraduates: A case study from the University of Kentucky, Kercsmar, S. E., Clancy, K. F., Arthur, C., Gdovka, T. (2023); and Experiential Learning Amid the Pandemic: The COVID-19 Senior Experience in Clinical Leadership & Management: Practicum, Capstone, and Beyond, Kercsmar, S. E., Clancy, K.

The Clinical Leadership and Management Program faculty present regularly at national AUPHA meetings and they have hosted forums and workshops on Finance, Economics, and Insurance and on Interprofessional Education. CLM faculty also serve as program certification reviewers and journal reviewers, while serving on AUPHA committees.

AUPHA provides an outlet for sharing best practice and excellence in health administration education,” said Sarah Kercsmar, PhD, MHA and Department Chair of Health and Clinical Sciences. “To be recognized as a leader by this organization for our engagement in the field is quite an honor.”
