The College of Health Sciences & Big Blue Pantry Host March Madness Food Drive During National Nutrition Month
A recent campus study found that more than 40% of UK students experience some level of food insecurity during their college career and the Big Blue Pantry is one resource to help combat the effects.
The College of Health Sciences is partnering with the Big Blue Pantry in order to make sure that no UK student ever goes hungry. March is National Nutrition Month, and we know that our community is well-informed about making health-conscious decisions about their diet. Because of this, all month long we will be gathering donations within the College of Health Sciences, donating funds, and purchasing items from Big Blue Pantry’s Amazon Wish List to help meet our student’s nutrition needs, even on the most basic level.
Last year, Big Blue Pantry, which serves UK students who are experiencing food insecurity or hunger, opened its first location within the UK medical center, providing quick, on-the-go goods to students with food insecurity in this major area of campus.
The new "Grab 'N Go" station, based in the Kentucky Clinic's Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives (CGPDI) office, offers students a pre-packed bag of staple pantry items, such as canned soups, beans, veggies, oatmeal, rice and pasta.
How to help:
Consider donating to the Big Blue Pantry Gift Fund that supports the student run and student serving Big Blue Pantry for students who experience food insecurity. Check out the Suggested Donations List for guidance on what items to donate, and drop them in the donation bins in the Charles T. Wethington Building in the Dean's Suite or in the Physical Therapy Suite on the 2nd Floor. You can also purchase items directly from Big Blue Pantry’s Amazon Wish List here.
Help us end hunger on campus because no student should ever have to choose between their education and their next meal.
