Congratulations to Our PA Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations go out to several students in the College of Health Sciences’ Physician Assistant Studies Department, for being named recipients of various scholarships. All students will be honored by the Department at the Clinical Orientation Breakfast on June 29.

“We are so proud of your accomplishments and hope you have a great semester,” said Virginia Valentin, Dr.Ph, PA-C, and Department Chair for Physician Assistant Studies.

Daus Scholarship: $4,000 each

The Department is honored to select Darius Morehead and Sydney Taylor to receive the Daus Family Scholarship in the amount of $4,000.

The Daus Family Scholarship seeks to award a student who demonstrates leadership either formally or informally as a student in the program, and the PAS Department Scholarship Committee selected these students for this scholarship because they have demonstrated these qualities.

Mission Scholarship: $2,000 each

The Department is honored to select Brooke Woosley, Halie Fain and Mya Faris to receive the PAS Department Mission Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.

The PAS Department Mission Scholarship seeks students who demonstrate their commitment to the PA program mission through work, service and advocacy.

Lyman T. Johnson Fellowship: $15,000 each

The Department is honored to select Will Ewers and Ciara Ford to receive The Lyman T. Johnson Fellowship, which provides a $15,000 stipend, a full standard graduate tuition* scholarship, and student health plan enrollment.

Awards are competitive and made on the basis of GPA, GRE or GMAT scores, letters of recommendation and continuation of the University’s compelling interest in the educational benefits of diversity. Consideration is based on holistic, individualized assessment of each applicant in such areas as:

  • Contributing to the University of Kentucky’s compelling interest in diversity
  • Representing first-generation college students
  • Leadership experience, extracurricular activities, awards and recognition, and/or community service

“We are so fortunate to have so many amazing students from which to choose,” Valentin said. “But these stood out. It occurs to me that when we recognize our students like this, I am once again reminded how the future of healthcare in our Commonwealth will be left in great hands.”
