Employers Look for CLM Interns in Speed Dating Style for Third Consecutive Year

Speed Dating

Maddie Murray knows a good networking situation when she sees it.

The 19-year-old junior Clinical Leadership and Management major from Powell County was one of dozens of students who came out Wednesday to participate in the third annual CLM Speed Dating Interviews, where employers come to the Harris Ballroom in the UK Student Center to interview current students for job and internship opportunities.

Groups of students are able to spend 10 minutes with each employer before moving on to the next.

"I just think it's a great opportunity to really get to know a lot of quality individuals and network for the future," Murray said.

Kristen Wilson, the regional director of operations for Mortenson Dental Partners in Louisville, was one of the employers looking for talent — including possible interns, as well as full-time workers. She said the three qualities that could make a candidate stand out include: a good attitude, communication skills and the ability to be self-driven.

"We need self-starters," she said, "someone who can really take on a task without a lot of micro-managing."

Asked if she thought she could find a candidate like that, she was very positive.

"We're very optimistic," she said. "And looking forward to meeting everyone."
