It’s CHS Research Day at Annual CCTS Spring Conference

Research Day

By Ryan Clark
CHS Communications Director

Therapeutic opportunities in older adults. Disparities of rehab delivery in critical illness survivors. Prevention as the best policy.

All will be discussed, and more, as today is College of Health Sciences Research Day at the 20th annual Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Spring Conference, entitled “Pioneering Pathways: Innovative Trial and Design in Translational Science.”

Speakers for CHS Research Day — which will include professionals, students, as well two external presenters — begin at 1 p.m. today in Meeting Room 10 at the Central Bank Center. A poster session will follow in the Main Street Lobby at 3 p.m.

“This conference is a chance to see the great work being done across the University,” said Ryan Hunton, DHSc, PA-C and assistant professor in Department of Physician Assistant Studies. “It often opens up doors for collaboration or new ideas across departments.”

Hunton will be speaking at 2:05 p.m. He said he is really looking forward to seeing some of the translational work being done in the medical, health sciences and nursing colleges.

“And I am looking forward to learning more about the artificial intelligence work being done through the Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence,” he said. “My own presentation is addressed to students and early faculty and discusses my pathway of taking an idea and turning it into a research question and project. This population is often overwhelmed by the research work being done and the idea of doing this research themselves, so I hope I can help them see the early stages, the uncertainty and inevitable failures along the way, and how a project might evolve over time.”

Brian Noehren, PT, PhD, FACSM, Associate Dean for Research and director of the Human Performance and Biomotion Laboratories, said the day a great opportunity for researchers from various disciplines to come together.

“CHS Research Day is a great opportunity for our college faculty and students to come together across disciplines and showcase various endeavors in their research and scholarship world,” he said. “We host two external speakers, and this year we have added a CHS scholarship and student presenters to our lineup. We hope for those who attend to see the research being shared and broaden their knowledge and motivate students to do their own research in the future.”
