Pabian Named Physical Therapy and Musculoskeletal Fitness Editor for AJLM

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 2, 2025) — Patrick Pabian, PT, DPT, PhD and chair for the Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky has been named to the editorial board of the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine (AJLM).
Pabian will serve as the editor for Physical Therapy and Musculoskeletal Fitness for AJLM, which publishes a broad range of articles intended for primary care providers and other health professionals on healthy lifestyle. AJLM is the official journal of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and publishes commentaries and research reviews on nutrition and diet, physical activity throughout the lifespan, behavior change, cardiovascular disease, obesity, anxiety and depression, sleep problems, metabolic disease, musculoskeletal function, etc.
“I am pleased to provide this level of service to a professional journal that has such potential to impact practices in health care,” Pabian said. “I appreciate that this journal is heavily focused on the translation of science and clinical applications of evidence-informed practice. As the editor for Physical Therapy and Musculoskeletal Fitness, I will serve as one of the few non-medical editorial board members to represent all the health professions, and their role in lifestyle medicine.”
Pabian completed a fellowship in higher education leadership through the American Physical Therapy Association and is recognized as a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. He is also a board-certified clinical specialist in both orthopedic physical therapy and sports physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists. He received his PhD in higher education from the University of Central Florida, while also completing a graduate certificate in advanced quantitative methodology in educational and human sciences.
His educational research focuses on contemporary issues in graduate and professional education, with a special concentration on interprofessional education and practice, and his scholarly focus in clinical physical therapy practice has focused on post-operative management of orthopedic and sports medicine populations.
Pabian is also an active leader in numerous academic, research, interprofessional education, and interprofessional practice organizations. His professional service includes being a board member and vice president for the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy. He is the former board member and chair of the Florida Board of Physical Therapy, the regulatory entity for state licensure. He has also been a council member for the sports physical therapy specialty council with the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
