Dear Campus Community,

In the interest of the safety and well-being of the campus community, President Eli Capilouto has determined that the University of Kentucky will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, due to inclement weather.

UK HealthCare facilities remain open and are operating on regular schedule.

In-person activities for students are canceled.

University Plan B (designated) employees are to report to work under the University’s weather policies. Designated employees via remote access should work remotely during Plan B operations. If employees have questions about procedures for their work, they should contact their supervisor.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking all faculty, staff and students who can to stay home and off the roads at this time. Road conditions remain challenging, and limiting travel helps keep everyone safe.

Staying home also allows our facilities and grounds crews to continue to clear roads, parking lots and sidewalks. They are focused on getting operations that directly support our students and campus community, including dining, health care and other critical functions, back open Tuesday if at all possible.

We want to offer a special thank you to all our crews who have worked tirelessly over the weekend — and will continue to work hard — to keep campus safe and to help take care of our people.

If you are on campus, please exercise caution and view tips to navigate campus safely, including maps showing the first sidewalks to be cleared during winter weather. Any changes to hours for on-campus services will be updated at www.uky.edu/alerts.

Our goal is to resume normal operations as soon as weather conditions safely allow. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates via email and at www.uky.edu/alerts.

Other important details:

  • Designated Plan B employees, per weather policies, are required to report to work on campus.
  • Supervisors may designate additional employees as needed for specific Plan B events.
  • Designated employees via remote access are required to work remotely beginning at their normal start time during Plan B operations.
  • As a reminder, if there is a change in the university’s status, the university will send a UK Alert.
