UK Closed Wednesday, Jan. 28, Due to Inclement Weather; Returning to Normal Ops, Jan. 29
Jan 27, 2026
In the interest of the safety and well-being of the campus community, President Eli Capilouto has determined that the University of Kentucky will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 28, due to inclement weather. We have made this decision to keep our community safe, and it is a demonstration of safety as our top priority.
We will return to normal operations on Thursday, Jan. 29. We will use our time on Wednesday to continue to prepare campus for reopening on Thursday.
We are encouraging our community to prepare for cold temperatures. Find our full list of reminders at go.uky.edu/ColdWeather and review tips to navigate campus safely in winter weather, including maps showing which sidewalks are cleared first.
The cold temperatures will remain a challenge this week, and we recognize some surrounding areas, particularly neighborhoods and side streets, may not yet be cleared. We continue to ask that supervisors offer flexibility for employees during this time.
