Pathways to Research: Mid-Career Perspectives and Advice from Physical Therapy Researchers
Congratulations go out to Kirby Mayer, PT, DPT, PhD, Associate Vice Chair of Research and Assistant Professor in the College of Health Sciences here at the University of Kentucky.
Mayer was recently featured in a "researcher spotlight" video for the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research.
"While each path to becoming a physical therapy researcher is unique, all share a commitment to advancing the profession," the site says. "Earlier in this series, we highlighted doctoral students starting their research careers. Now, we focus on mid-career researchers and professors shaping physical therapy through leadership, mentorship, and research that helps drive evidence-based care."
Mayer received a doctoral scholarship in 2017 and the 2023 Acute Care Grant.
He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from University of Kentucky, Center for Excellence in Rural Health in 2014. After practicing as a staff physical therapist at Chandler Medical, he returned to school and completed his PhD from the Rehabilitation and Health Sciences PhD Program in 2019.
