From WKYT: CHS Twins Share Bond on National Siblings Day

You may want to give your sibling, or siblings, an extra tight hug Wednesday because it’s National Siblings Day!

If you have siblings, you know the valuable role they can play in your life. In recognition of the day, we caught up with a set of twins who, upon graduation, will spend more time than they ever have apart.

“It’s been really great always having someone to share my experiences with,” Jess Wicker said.

Since birth, identical twins Alli and Jess Wicker’s bond has been tight.

“We have a lot of really good experiences together,” Jess said.

In middle school and high school, Alli and Jess say you could find them doing just about everything together.

“We did all the same sports, and we were in all the same classes,” Alli said.

At times, it got competitive.

“But that’s also one of the things that got us here at UK,” Alli said.

However, going to the same college wasn’t always the plan. They were preparing to have their first taste of separation after they graduated high school.

“I planned on going to UK from the start, but she planned on going to U of L. It was really exciting but also really terrible because I see her every day and we talk every day and if we were at different colleges, it would have been really hard,” Jess said.

Luckily, Alli changed her mind and chose UK.

While in school, the girls, you guessed it, joined the same groups, like Kappa Kappa Gamma of Phi Mu sororities and DanceBlue. As for their majors, that was one thing they differed on.

“I’m pre-med (Human Health Sciences) and she’s in healthcare admin (Clinical Leadership and Management),” Jess said.

So, for the first time, they went to different classes and completed different assignments, but at least there was always a familiar face on campus.

“It’s still been really good to have someone in school that I can always count on to talk about the things I’m dealing with or have someone to go to events with,” Jess said.

Both are in the same College, though — the College of Health Sciences. 

But next month, Alli and Jess are set to graduate. They say they’ll be living together but will be on opposite schedules as they start their individual careers.

“We definitely won’t see each other as much, but I think it’ll be good because she’s always the person that I talk to and the person that I lean on," Alli said. "We’ll still have that even if we’re in different places."
