Dr. Christen Page is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) and in the Rehabilitation and Health Sciences Doctoral Program (RHB-DP), in the College of Health Sciences. Dr. Page completed her master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Western Kentucky University and PhD. in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Kentucky.
Prior to joining UK, she was an Associate Professor at Eastern Kentucky University where she taught a variety of courses in communication sciences and disorders for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Page is a licensed speech-language pathologist with experience treating and supporting individuals across the life span in various settings including elementary to high school, acute care, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, and academic clinics. Her main areas of interest and expertise include aphasia, dementia, caregiver training, and interprofessional education. In clinical service, teaching, and research, Dr. Page emphasizes person-centered care and methods to connect the classroom, research, and clinical practice. Currently, Dr. Page serves as the coordinator of the UK Aphasia Lab which provides services to enhance life participation for individuals with aphasia.
Scholarly Interests
Dr. Page’s goal is to improve patient care for adults with neurogenic communication disorders through enhanced practice, skills, and training. Currently, her main areas of research include interprofessional education, community access/quality of life for individuals with aphasia, and scholarship of teaching and learning. Previous research involved telepractice, clinical supervision, simulation-based learning, and interprofessional education using qualitative and mixed methodologies. Dr. Page also enjoys engaging students in scholarship endeavors at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. The majority of undergraduate and graduate students disseminate research findings through presentations and/or publications.
Educational Focus
Dr. Page’s mission in teaching is to create a positive, welcoming environment in which students increase self-efficacy to become life-long learners. She achieves this by empowering, engaging, and evaluating students using different methods. Dr. Page teaches graduate courses in Aphasia, Cognitive-Communication Disorders, and Research Methodology. During classes, Dr. Page focuses on application of course content through a variety of learning celebrations. Students interact with other professionals and individuals with aphasia during classes. Personal Interests
Dr. Page is from Tompkinsville, KY and now lives in Salvisa, KY. She is married to her high school sweetheart, John, and they have one son, Archibald, and a puppy, Lilly. She enjoys teaching a children’s Sunday school class, long distance running, and spending time (mostly outside) with her family.
