Samaritan's Touch Clinical Work

PT Student Quotes

“Through my time at Samaritan’s Touch, I have further developed my clinical reasoning, decision making processes, and therapy techniques. I truly believe Sam’s Touch has made me a better student therapist and will continue to benefit me past graduation. The exposure to complex patients and the privilege to treat them is something I will always remember fondly about my time at the University of Kentucky.” - Emily Bennett, Student Therapist

“Samaritan’s Touch provides an enriching path for students to hone their skills, learn from experienced professionals, and most importantly, witness the positive impact of compassionate care on individuals in need. It's not just a learning opportunity but a chance to contribute to the well-being of others, making it a profoundly rewarding and unforgettable experience.” - Cameron Elder, Student Therapist

“Getting to treat patients at Sam’s Touch has been an incredibly rewarding experience as a student physical therapist. It has helped me learn how to provide better care and allowed me the experience of getting hands-on experiences with a wide variety of patient cases. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with these patients and be able to contribute to the care of this community. Every patient is so happy to help us become better students, and for that I will be forever grateful!” - Hallie Turner, Student Therapist

“Sam’s touch provided me a great environment to learn and grow in my confidence and clinical reasoning skills while also being able to provide care and support to a population that might not otherwise be able to get it.” - Lauren Harshbarger, Student Therapist

“Working at the Sam’s Touch Pro Bono Physical Therapy Clinic has allowed me to gain invaluable early exposure to the clinical environment with things like use of an electronic medical record, PT evaluation planning and execution, and session planning for various patients with various diagnoses. The opportunity to build genuine therapeutic relationships with patients throughout my time fosters a sense of fulfillment and growth as a student. Additionally, being able to apply classroom skills enhances both my confidence and proficiency, making my experience at Sam’s Touch a truly rewarding and educational experience as an aspiring physical therapist.” - Cody Scales, Student Therapist

Patient Success Story

"I traveled from Ghana to the United States in September 2022 and after a few weeks I had a stroke at the airport en route to Michigan. My left arm and leg were affected. I then came to Kentucky in a wheelchair for further treatment and happened to be directed to Samaritan's Touch for therapy. The therapists and student interns there are great. They really know their work. I can attest to that. As earlier noted, I was in a wheelchair when I came, not able to walk or hold anything with my left hand. The therapists have helped me to get back on my feet and no longer in a wheelchair. I'm also now able to hold items with my left hand. The group of therapists there are very tolerant and have time for their patients. The Samaritan’s Touch has therapists and students who are on top of their work. There is no trial and error, they deal with the problem. I recommend Samaritan’s Touch to all."
