I. REHABILITATION AND HEALTH SCIENCES CORE COURSES (9 CREDITS)
RHB 701: Rehabilitation and Health Theory and Applications through the Life Span (3 credits)
RHB 714: Critical Appraisal of Research in Rehabilitation and Health Sciences (3 credits)
RHB 720: Research in Rehabilitation and Health Sciences (3 credits)

1. Students will be required to take a RHB771: Research Seminar during every Spring semester they are enrolled in the Rehabilitation and Health Sciences Doctoral Program. They will take this course twice for 1 credit and will be expected to attend the seminars in the following semesters.
2. Students are required to take RHB775: Responsible Conduct in Research and Ethics for 1 credit.
3. Students must choose 2 additional Seminars at 1 credit each for a total of 5 credits for Professional Seminars.

III. RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES-(MINIMUM OF 6 CREDITS)
Students will be required to complete a minimum of 6 credits* of courses pertaining to research methodologies. Examples of such courses are:
STA 671: Regression and Correlation
STA 672: Design and Analysis of Experiments
EDS 633: Single Subject Research Design
NUR 791: Qualitative Research Methodologies
CPH 664: Design and Analysis of Clinical Trials
* (STA 570: Basic Statistical Analysis is a prerequisite for research methodology courses.)

IV. AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION (MINIMUM OF 12 CREDITS)*
Students will be required to complete a minimum of 12 credits of coursework pertaining to their Area of Specialization.

Area of Specialization coursework is an opportunity for the student to gain in-depth knowledge of a topic of interest within their respective field or area. These courses may be take the form of independent studies and can be tailored to the student’s specific needs. Students are encouraged to select courses that will assist them in developing the necessary expertise and skills to support their research agenda ultimately culminating in a dissertation.

Communication Sciences & Disorders courses may be offered at all partnering institutions, Occupational Therapy courses are offered at Eastern Kentucky University, and Physical Therapy and Athletic Training courses are offered at the University of Kentucky. Distance education technology is used throughout the program and university to make core courses widely available; however, the program cannot be completed through distance education only.

The vast academic and research resources of the university institutes and centers are available for student participation. Coursework can be bundled to provide a certification of completion. Examples include certificates in Clinical Translational Sciences (CTS), Statistics, and Developmental Disabilities.  Coursework pertaining to certificates of completion can serve as part or whole of the coursework in their area of specialization.

V. RESEARCH APPRENTICESHIP (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDITS)
RHB 789: Research Apprenticeship in Rehabilitation Sciences
Students will be required to complete a minimum of 6 credits of coursework as a Research Apprenticeship.
*(One apprenticeship will be completed with the student's committee chair.  One apprenticeship will be completed outside of the student's discipline.)

VI. TEACHING APPRENTICESHIP (MINIMUM OF 2 CREDITS)
RHB 787: Teaching Apprenticeship in Rehabilitation Sciences*
Students will be required to complete a minimum of 2 credits of coursework as a Teaching Apprenticeship.
*(Teaching requirements are individually designed based on the student’s past teaching experience.)

VII. DISSERTATION-2 CREDITS PER SEMESTER FOR A MAXIMUM OF 5 YEARS
RHB 767: Dissertation Residency Credit (2 credits)
