AACPDM Honors Hidecker for Serving as Director at Large

The AACPDM Board of Directors wishes to thank Mary Jo Cooley Hidecker, PhD, CCC-A/SLP for her service to the Academy as Director at Large.  

Milwaukee, Wisc., Sept. 1, 2023 — The American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) wishes to thank Dr. Mary Jo Cooley Hidecker for serving as Director at Large (2022-2023).  

Lesley Pritchard, PT, PhD, AACPDM President (2022-23) states, “Mary Jo's contributions to the Academy over her three year term on the Board of Directors have been significant. Her expertise, thoughtfulness, and dedication have greatly benefited the Academy.” 

Mary Jo Cooley Hidecker

Dr. Mary Jo Cooley Hidecker, an audiologist and speech-language pathologist, is an Associate Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Kentucky. Previously, she has been a professor at the University of Wyoming and at the University of Central Arkansas. She leads the development of the Communication Function Classification System (CFCS) which has been used in cerebral palsy clinical and research endeavors. She is part of the team developing the Autism Classification System of Functioning: Social Communication (ACSF:SC). 

Dr. Hidecker’s involvement with the Academy began by attending the 2007 Annual Meeting as a graduate student.  She received a 2008 Student Travel Award and won the 2008 Best Scientific Poster Award. An AACPDM Fellow member since 2009, she has presented papers, posters, and instructional courses at AACPDM national and international meetings. She has published articles in AACPDM’s official journal Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology (DMCN) and served as a reviewer since 2008.  

Her committee involvement includes volunteer on the Scientific Program Committee (2010, 2014), member of the Therapy Working Group, volunteer on the Treatment Outcome Committee (2009-2012), Development of the CPRN (2015-16), member of the Neuromotor Skills and Functional Assessments working Group, identifying common data elements & meaningful outcome measures for CP (2016), as well as serving on the Advisory Committee.
