What was your favorite class? What Human Health Sciences course was most useful? Is it easy to make friends in college? How did you choose your minor? How do you balance school and your social life?
These were some of the questions asked by the packed crowd that came out Friday for “A Day in the Life,” an outreach program to give others an idea of what it’s like to be an undergraduate student in the College of Health Sciences, including Clinical Leadership and Management, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Human Health Sciences and Medical Laboratory Science.
Given the great interest, officials say they hope to offer programs each semester in the future.
Throughout the day, the audience was treated to panel discussions from current students, presentations by faculty, a resource fair for things like study abroad opportunities and even a tour of some of the college’s labs and classrooms.
“We hope that we can relay just what it’s like to be a student in these classes,” said Sarah Kercsmar, PhD, MHA and chair of the Department of Health and Clinical Sciences in the College of Health Sciences. “By showing some examples, we want to take some of the mystery out of what our majors are, what is expected, and just how much we have to offer here in the college.”
Current students talked about everything from time management to extracurriculars to finding undergraduate research opportunities.
