Creative Services Wins CASE District Awards

This week, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) announced that the College of Health Sciences’ Creative Services department won two honors in the 2024 CASE District III Awards.
The competitive awards, which are presented to universities and schools in the CASE Southeast region, recognize the best in educational advancement, including writing, marketing, design and communications.
CHS won two awards — one for writing a profile about April Ballentine (a domestic abuse victim who was learning to walk again with help from CHS faculty and SMRI) and another for an ongoing project story about the one-year anniversary of the eastern Kentucky floods.
The Ballentine story, written by Ryan Clark and Allison Perry, originally appeared in full in a 2023 issue of Gateway Magazine.
The flood project, which included web stories, videos, a podcast interview and a magazine story, was produced by Ryan Clark, Will Hieronymus, Sam Reynolds, Hillary Smith, Andi Dunn, Myles Logsdon and Bernadette Cortez.
“Congratulations to these staff for their outstanding work,” said Scott Lephart, PhD and Dean of the College. “Recognition from CASE is always a prestigious accomplishment. And while this reflects their hard work and dedication to marketing and telling our story, it also shows just how many great things we’re able to communicate here in the College of Health Sciences. We have a truly special story to tell — and special people who are telling it.”
CASE’s Awards are the premier recognition program for educational advancement. The peer-selected and adjudicated awards celebrate colleges, universities, and schools worldwide whose talented staff have advanced their institutions with resourcefulness and ingenuity.
“As we mark CASE’s 50th anniversary this year, we are taking time to celebrate our members across the globe,” said Sue Cunningham, CASE President and CEO. “We applaud the achievements and innovation of advancement professionals across all sectors and all regions — work in schools, colleges and universities that advances education and thereby transforms lives and society.”
CASE District III is made up of schools and universities from across the Southeast, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
As a global nonprofit association dedicated to educational advancement — alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and advancement services — CASE champions education to transform lives and society.
To fulfill their missions and to meet both individual and societal needs, colleges, universities and independent schools rely on and therefore must foster the goodwill, active involvement, informed advocacy and enduring support of alumni, donors, prospective students, parents, government officials, community leaders, corporate executives, foundation officers, and other external constituencies.
CASE’s membership includes more than 3,000 colleges, universities, and independent elementary and secondary schools in more than 80 countries, making CASE one of the largest nonprofit education associations in the world in terms of institutional membership. CASE serves more than 90,000 advancement professionals at member institutions and has offices in London, UK; Mexico City, Mexico; Singapore; and Washington, D.C., USA. The association produces content, publications, conferences, institutes, and workshops that support educational leaders and advancement professionals in their work to advance education through serving their institutions.
