As students from the College of Health Sciences poured onto UK’s snowy campus for the first day of spring semester classes Monday, they expressed the entire gamut of emotions.
Excitement. Nervousness. Eagerness. Joy.
Some of the students were going through a first day for the last time.
“This semester will be bittersweet for me because it is my last one!” said senior Kelly Chism, a Human Health Sciences (pre-med) major from Naperville, Ill. “I can’t believe how fast the time has flown by, but I’m so excited for this semester and grateful for my time at UK. I’m looking forward to basketball games, late-night study sessions at Willy T, and preparing for graduation/medical school. I can’t wait to see what this semester has in store for me, and I hope everyone else has a great year, too!”
Similar to Kelly, Autumn Glass is looking forward to a fun final semester.
“As I enter my last semester as a senior, I’m filled with excitement and bittersweet emotions,” said the Human Health Sciences major (pre-med) from Edmonton, Ky. “I can’t wait to see what lies ahead this semester!”
For others, the break was long enough.
“I had a really great winter break, and I enjoyed the time off school, but I’m excited to start this new semester,” said Aliza Sanchez, a junior Human Health Sciences major (pre-PA) from Union, Ky. Sanchez also participates in the Lewis Honors College. “I know it’ll be hard but I’m looking forward to a lot of my courses and getting to see all of my friends from Lexington.”
“Can’t wait for a new semester with new opportunities!” said Liv Kitts, a junior Clinical Leadership and Management major from Nicholasville.
These seemed to be the themes Monday as hundreds of CHS students came back to campus. Many said they felt their professors had set them up for success, while it was nearly unanimous that they were excited to see old friends again.
“Really looking forward to the last semester of undergrad and appreciating all the things Lexington and UK has to offer!” said Lauren Cahill, a senior Communication Sciences and Disorders major from Wilmington, Del.
And optimism is reigning supreme.
“As much as I’m missing home,” said Jess Kerul, a senior Human Health Sciences major (pre-pharmacy) from Concord Township, Ohio, “I am excited to see what this new semester brings and new memories that I’ll make!”
