For Ava DiSante, being a University of Kentucky student means much more than spending time in the classroom.
The 20-year-old from Orwigsburg, Penn., is studying Human Health Sciences with a focus in Audiology while staying active in a variety of organizations and activities across campus. Now, she’s ready to give others a closer look at what it’s really like to be a student in the College of Health Sciences.
DiSante is the newest CHS social media influencer, and will take over the college’s TikTok and Instagram accounts to share her experiences, highlight opportunities available to CHS students and offer a glimpse into her life as a healthcare student.
“I want to show people that having a major in healthcare doesn’t mean that you can’t be involved or have a well-rounded college experience,” DiSante said. “I want to show how I live a balanced lifestyle between school and a variety of clubs and activities.”
And DiSante certainly has plenty of activities to share.
She serves as vice president of Kentucky Chi Omega and is a member of the Order of Omega. She also is involved with DanceBlue as a Programming Committee member, serves as the NSSLHA Silent Auction chair and is a member of the Greek Sing Special Events Committee.
For DiSante, choosing UK was about challenging herself.
“I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and choose an out-of-state school,” she said.
She was initially drawn to UK’s campus, but it was the opportunities she saw in healthcare and Audiology that ultimately helped solidify her decision.
DiSante chose Audiology because she has always known she wanted to work with children and make a meaningful difference in their lives.
“I always knew I wanted to work with kids and teach them not only how to more effectively communicate but also change their lives by giving them the ability to hear,” she said. “It’s a very rewarding field.”
That passion for healthcare, combined with her involvement outside the classroom, is something DiSante hopes to bring to her social media content.
Through her takeover of the CHS accounts, she plans to create relatable, authentic content that showcases the opportunities available to students throughout the college and across UK.
“I want to be able to give an authentic look into what it means to be a student at the University of Kentucky and encourage people to step out of their comfort zone and become involved in this community,” DiSante said.
Whether she’s studying, participating in a campus organization, attending a UK event or simply navigating everyday college life, DiSante hopes her followers will see that pursuing a career in healthcare can be part of a much bigger college experience.
Her ultimate goal is to become a pediatric audiologist and use her career to make a positive impact in her community. Until then, she’ll be sharing that journey with CHS followers — one TikTok and Instagram post at a time.
“I can’t wait to make a life-changing impact on my patients’ lives,” she said.
