Doctorate of Audiology

What is an audiologist?

Audiologists are the primary health-care professionals who evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage hearing loss and balance disorders in individuals of all ages from infants and children to adults and the elderly.

Our Program

The new Doctorate in Audiology program will be implemented in Spring 2026, pending approval by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The program is being planned by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Otolaryngology and Audiology in the College of Medicine. Faculty position searches are scheduled to begin in Fall 2025, with student enrollment planned for Summer 2026.

Educational Requirements

Being an audiologist requires a clinical doctoral degree (AuD) for entry level practice.

Graduating students will be eligible to apply for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association if all certification requirements are fulfilled satisfactorily. Students will also be eligible for Licensure in audiology in Kentucky and other states.
