Rural Roots Conference 2025

On Friday, the Physician Assistant Studies Program hosted the annual Rural Roots Health Conference at the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital, Pavilion A, Karpf Auditorium.

This year's conference, entitled "Bridging Integrative Care for a Healthier Kentucky and Appalachia," featured several speakers, a rotating series of poster presentations, and a Zoom audience.

"The Annual Rural Roots Health Conference: Bridging Integrative Care for a Healthier Kentucky and Appalachia is important because it brings together a multidisciplinary community, passionate about sustainable solutions to addressing the gaps in behavioral health care," said Shelley Irving MSPAS, PA-C, Associate Professor and Morehead Campus Site Director in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies.

Speakers included Stephanie Abel, PharmD, BCPS, Opioid Stewardship Program Coordinator for UK HealthCare; Margaret McGladrey, PhD, Assistant Professor, University of Kentucky College of Public Health Department of Health Management and Policy, and Mike Brunet, PhD, ATC and Director, Clinical Research UK St. Claire in Morehead.

"This conference provides an important opportunity to network, share resources and build community," Irving said.
