History

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) Simulation Task Force was approved as an ad-hoc committee by the Executive Committee in April 2024 in order to align with other healthcare colleges in the University of Kentucky, promote intra- and intercollegiate collaboration, provide faculty development opportunities in simulation pedagogy, and prepare for optimal use of simulation space in the Health Education Building.

In August 2024, a SWOT analysis of each department’s needs and current use of simulation was conducted. In October 2024, the Simulation Task Force had its first meeting with representation from each of the five departments in CHS. In November 2024, representation from CHS began meeting with simulation leadership from the UK College of Medicine and College of Nursing to discuss shared vision and goals. Over 2024-2025, the task force met monthly sharing simulation resources, taking on leadership and collaborative roles with other healthcare colleges, touring UK simulation facilities, generating new simulation learning experiences, and providing reports to UK and CHS leadership.

In December 2025, the CHS Executive Committee approved the Simulation Advisory Council (SimAC) as a permanent organization within the college. Through a limited set of funds, the SimAC will be able to support faculty through professional development, like Certified Health Simulation Educator (CHSE) training, and internal faculty development activities.

Faculty Composition

SimAC will be composed of five faculty, with one from each of the five departments, who possess interest and training in simulation use in health care education. These faculty will be appointed by their department leadership. The term for service on this council will be for two years with potential for re-appointment.
