Former University of Kentucky faculty members and successful entrepreneurs Elaine and Myron “Mike” Jacobson created a very successful business using the research findings from their work at UK. With their success as inspiration, the College of Health Sciences created a program to promote entrepreneurship among faculty and staff. The program includes a grant and an educational series.
Myron and Elaine Jacobson Innovation Award
The award focuses on new, independent ventures in the seed, start-up or early growth stages. Technologies, products and processes resulting from work in the College’s research labs are encouraged assuming there has been no previous commercialization of the idea. Faculty, administration and professional staff from the UK College of Health Sciences are encouraged to develop ideas into potential startup ventures and apply. Follow-up submissions are welcome as there are two phases of the award to support ventures as they progress.
The Phase 1 award is intended to generate and accelerate interest in entrepreneurial efforts.
The Phase 2 award is intended to prepare entrepreneurial efforts for next steps in business planning and connecting with the business community.
