Who Should Apply
We anticipate that most applicants will be credentialed Athletic Trainers seeking to gain advanced knowledge in musculoskeletal management. These applicants must hold a degree from a CAATE accredited professional program in Athletic Training (bachelor's or master's).
The graduate certificate is also open to any individuals that will be eligible for medical licensure. These include, but are not limited to, the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, Kentucky Board of Physical Therapy or Kentucky Board of Licensure for Occupational Therapy.

Admissions Criteria
All applicants must meet the minimum academic standards for The Graduate School.
Additionally, applicants must also present with the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education (college or university)
- Eligible for a medical or health care professional State of Kentucky licensure
- Applicants must hold current first-aid and CPR certifications through either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
- Students must participate in an on-campus interview
- Personal Statement: 1-page summary of the applicant’s interest in becoming an advanced athletic trainer
- Professional references: A list of three professional references
- Undergraduate Institution Academic Transcript
- Graduate Institution Academic Transcript (if applicable)

Graduate Record Examination (optional): Students may submit an official and original GRE score report to The Graduate School. The scores must be from within the last five years
How to Apply
- Prepare the following documents:
- Personal Statement (1-page summary of the applicant’s interest in becoming an advanced athletic trainer)
- Resume
- Copies of unofficial transcripts (Undergraduate Institution Academic Transcript and Graduate Institution Academic Transcript, if applicable)
- Three letters of recommendation
