Welcome to the University of Kentucky Physician Assistant Program! We are thrilled that you are interested in our program. Since 1975, the UK Physician Assistant program has had a rich history of academic excellence due in large part to our students, staff and faculty. In our program, students are immersed in a dynamic and supportive learning environment that nurtures both student’s clinical skills and their ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Our program is dedicated to equipping learners with the knowledge and skills needed to excel as a healthcare professional in the realm of primary care, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

We are distinctive and known nationally for our efforts in developing clinicians who are interested in practicing medicine in underserved communities. We have two campuses, Lexington and our distance campus in Morehead, KY. The distance campus is specifically designed to meet the healthcare needs of rural Kentucky. Further, our program continues to be recognized for its work in the discipline of Interprofessional (IPE) healthcare education. We also take pride in our strong relationships with international partners that allow us to provide life-changing clinical rotation experiences for our students who are interested in studying clinical medicine abroad. Because of these things, US News and World Report considers the UK Program one of the best, ranking the program 20th nationally.

More than anything, I want to emphasize that you belong here. Our talented community of students, staff and faculty is what makes our program so exceptional. You are not just students here; you are valued members of a supportive and collaborative family. We are here to help you thrive, learn, and succeed. The UK PA program is designed to be rigorous and comprehensive, ensuring that you graduate not only with the knowledge and skills requisite to excel but also with the confidence to make a difference in the ever-evolving healthcare environment. You will be challenged, and you will grow, and I am confident that you will rise to the occasion and achieve great things here.

Once again, welcome to the University of Kentucky's Physician Assistant Program. We look forward to guiding you on this transformative journey as you become a skilled, compassionate, and conscientious healthcare provider dedicated to improving the well-being of all individuals, especially those in underserved areas. We know this experience will be meaningful and we’re eager for you to get started.

Sincerely,
Kevin M. Schuer, PA-C, DrPH
