Research and Scholarship

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies proud to support staff and faculty in engaging in research and scholarship with the goal to serve the Commonwealth and beyond. Faculty in our department have research interests that focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning in medical education, understanding the role and outcomes of PAs in the health workforce and translational and interdisciplinary research.

Grants and Collaborations

Our success is built upon our many collaborations in Kentucky, nationally and internationally. The grant support (recent or current) of Health Resource and Service Administration (HRSA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA), PA Education Association (PAEA) and Council of Postsecondary Education (CPE) have provided us the opportunity to implement change that supports our students while attempting to improve access to health care and increase medical knowledge in our future PA workforce.

Training Students and Disseminating Our Work

Through interprofessional teamwork, our faculty and staff engage in numerous projects, and we are proud to see their work presented and published regionally, nationally and internationally.

All of our PA residents and Master’s PA students engage in research projects during their training at UK.  Through faculty mentorship we seek to build PAs who think critically, ask questions and seek answers through developing evidence-based medicine.
